Whether you are completely new to fishing or have years of experience by the water, this event is designed to be welcoming, friendly, and pressure-free. Participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of fly fishing, improve their casting techniques, enjoy peaceful time in nature, and most importantly, spend time with fellow veterans who understand the value of camaraderie and shared experience.
Research and veteran support organisations increasingly recognise the positive impact outdoor activities can have on wellbeing, helping reduce isolation, improve mental health, and rebuild social connections. The Forest of Dean itself provides the perfect backdrop — quiet waters, woodland scenery, and a chance to step away from the pressures of everyday life.
The event will be suitable for beginners, and support will be available throughout the session. Equipment guidance and further details will be provided when signing up.
At the heart of the Armed Forces Support Network is the belief that nobody should feel isolated after service. Activities like this are not just about fishing — they are about friendship, wellbeing, confidence, and creating new memories together.
If you would like to take part in the Veterans Fly Fishing Experience, or would simply like to find out more, we would love to hear from you.
Come along, meet new people, enjoy the outdoors, and cast a line with us.
